Whoever named this butterfly obviously didn't work in marketing. Dingy Skipper is underselling it a bit. Close up it is quite beautiful, although it does look like a fairly nondescript small dull moth as it flies around.
This one is taking nectar from birds-foot trefoil, one of its favourite flowers.
The male and female look alike. I'm not sure which is which here but I assume there is one of each.
The older butterflies have slightly battered wings. These two photos show similar wing damage and are probably the same individual.
This one is either even older or has been in more fights.
Your skipper has cladding that resembles prettily patterned animal hair. The frayed wings look like bird beaks have had a go. Superb photography!
